With seven pedals and three positions for each pedal, how many possible combinations are there? An overwhelming number! In Pedal Exercises for Harp, you'll find an incremental and logical approach to tackling pedals through forty exercises. Each exercise is written to drill a highly specific aspect of changing pedals, including moving individual pedals, moving two pedals simultaneously, moving pedals in opposite directions, moving pedals from flat to sharp, and using the left foot on the E pedal. In addition, such deliberate focus on the pedals improves your ability to make each pedal change quiet and efficient.

A Must for All Pedal Harpists

Posted by Hope Louise on 4th Jul 2025

If I could recommend only one book for getting acquainted with pedals it is this one. Jacqueline has done a fantastic job curating the exercises to cover not only the fundamental basics of moving the pedals but getting more comfortable with pedal configurations that are far more advanced and not as commonly encountered. Every exercise is well organized and easy to understand. I like how Jacqueline leaves room so students can practice writing out their own pedal markings and charts which is an important skill to get acquainted with early on when learning the pedal harp. Another thing I really appreciate about using this book for my harp practice is it really helped me figure out where my challenge line was. It helped me find the weak spots in not only my overall technique but got me to think about how to be more efficient when it came to learning pieces with pedal changes. I use this exercise book in conjunction with pedal harp repertoire because it’s a great way to get the brain, hands, and feet working together before practicing my repertoire.
