Designed in 1919, the Lyon & Healy Style 11 incorporates a classic Art Nouveau motif on the ornately carved column, base frame and feet. The brass action plate features a highly decorative design that was created specifically for this harp and every instrument is hand carved by master artisans. The 23-karat gold gilding and floral accents reflect the warm, resonant sound that is characteristic of the exquisite Style 11.
This pre-owned 1973 Style 11 is built with stunning bird’s eye maple and is in structurally sound condition, though it exhibits a slight twist in the neck, which has been taken into account in the price. It was recently regulated, but some clicking in the action remains, and a rerivit will be needed for complete noise elimination. While the harp is playable, the string placement has some irregularities, similar to a lever harp when the lever is engaged, which does affect the string alignment.
Cosmetically, the harp shows signs of its age, including flaking of the gold gilding and a small separation on the soundboard. Despite these imperfections, the harp remains a stunning piece both visually and sonically.
Please note: While this harp is a beautiful vintage instrument, it would not be ideal as a primary performance or recording harp due to its slight action noise and string alignment quirks. It’s an excellent choice for those seeking a functioning vintage Lyon & Healy instrument with unique character.
